WA training hours shortfall in new CPC training

Western Australian stonemasonry apprentices may experience a down size in training hours allocation for the delivery of the new CPC 32308 training package. The training hours have been reduced from 760hrs to 560hrs.
Stonemasonry apprentices and employers please respond.
Do you feel that this reduction in hours will have a positive effect on your training?
Do you feel that this reduction in hours will deliver nationally consistent training?
Will this reduction in hours disadvantage Western Australian stonemason apprentices?
Is this reduction in hours a further dilution of trade training?
Is this reduction in hours fair?

Please post your thoughts.
Thanks and regards,
Kenneth Cooper

Hi Kenneth, I just discovered today that the Queensland hours for CPC08 training have been set at 368 for CPC20508 Certificate II in Stoneworking and 659 for CPC32308 Certificate III in Stonemasonry (Monumental/Installation) - I will be canvassing Queensland industry people for their comments on this matter.

I can't see this having a positive affect on the industrie, as a current apprentice I can't see how less hours would enable the same level of training that I have recieved.

i doubt it would make much difference, you could easily cram the same amount of work done at tafe now into 560 hours

There just isent anuf time to learn everything about stonemasonry as there is no time limit to learn it all, it takes a life time to know it all.

If this new training scheme in Western Australia continues overtime our knowledge and skills will be vague. Only knowing the specifics does not incur a true stonemason. Nationally and internationally West Australian Stonemasons won't be recognised as skillful tradespeople in the industry. This will in time negatively affect W.A's economy due to lack of experience in all aspects of the trade. Its a quickfix solution to help W.A's shortage of tradesman in the industry, but if history is not taught history will be forgotten.
