If this new training scheme in Western Australia continues overtime our knowledge and skills will be vague. Only knowing the specifics does not incur a true stonemason. Nationally and internationally West Australian Stonemasons won't be recognised...
I can't see this having a positive affect on the industrie, as a current apprentice I can't see how less hours would enable the same level of training that I have recieved.
Hi Kenneth, I just discovered today that the Queensland hours for CPC08 training have been set at 368 for CPC20508 Certificate II in Stoneworking and 659 for CPC32308 Certificate III in Stonemasonry (Monumental/Installation) - I will be canvassing...
How can the reduction of course hours have a positive effect? There is already spectulation within the industry that current stonemasons are undertrained, and the solution to this is reducing the amount of training? Give me a break!!! To suggest t...
look its not right how can we have less hours then a plaster who has over 700 hours and our field is alot bigger with more skills and knowledge to learn plain and simple
It looks like the stonemasonry program has been short-changed as a result of under-bidding for your slice of the user choice program. This is a state issue even though the funding is distributed by the Commonwealth. I suggest you lobby the officia...
1. No because apprentices will miss out learning on certain things.
2. No because other states training hours are more so they will learn more therefore being better off than WA aprrentices.
3. Yes WA stonemasons will be behind other stonemasons i...

A little more about me...
In 1980 I started work as an apprentice stonemason in Perth WA. After completing my apprenticeship in 1984 I moved to Sydney NSW and worked for various stone companies for 3 years. I moved to the UK in 1987 and continued to work in the stone industry but this time in restoration. I moved back to WA in 1990 and started a stonemasonry business. In 2000 I decided to leave the business and start a new career as a stonemasonry lecturer with Swan TAFE and have been here ever since.
My usual work tasks evolve around assisting stonemasonry students gain a better understanding of the knowledge and skills required to complete their trade studies.
